Inclusion at Miles Coverdale

At Miles Coverdale Primary School, we are committed to creating an inclusive school community where every child is welcomed, valued and supported to participate fully in school life and achieve their potential.

We recognise that children may experience barriers to learning and participation at different points in their education. Our approach begins with high-quality inclusive classroom practice, alongside early identification of need, appropriate adaptations and targeted or specialist support where required.

Our approach to inclusion

We aim to ensure that all pupils can access an ambitious curriculum and experience genuine participation and belonging within our school community. Our inclusive provision includes:

  • high-quality adaptive teaching and accessible learning environments;
  • early identification and a graduated approach to additional needs;
  • support for speech, language and communication;
  • targeted academic, social, emotional and regulation support;
  • reasonable adjustments to enable participation in lessons and wider school life;
  • close partnership with families and external professionals; and
  • support which develops pupils' independence, confidence and self-advocacy.

As a school with a specialist Speech and Language Resource Base, we benefit from significant expertise in speech, language and communication. Specialist approaches developed within the Resource Base help strengthen inclusive practice throughout the wider school.

Our Inclusion Strategy 2026–27

Our Inclusion Strategy explains the barriers to learning and participation identified within our school community, how we use our resources to address these barriers, and the outcomes we aim to achieve for pupils with SEND and additional needs.

You can also find further information about our provision in our SEND Information Report, SEND Policy and Speech and Language Resource Base pages.
