Learning and Teaching
Education begins at birth and is a life-long process. We aim to make an effective contribution to every child’s life and enable learners to express themselves clearly and confidently and communicate with others effectively.
Our curriculum aims are for each child to develop:
- Creativity
- Understanding
- Competence and confidence
- Values
- Respect
- Fitness
- Interests and skills
- Self esteem
- Positive attitudes
The National Curriculum is followed for all pupils of compulsory school age. It consists of the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science. The foundation subjects include History, Geography, Religious Education, PSHE, Computing, Art, Design and Technology, Music and Physical Education.
Miles Coverdale Primary School has many creative, sporting, environmental studies and health related topics that the children are involved in throughout the academic year. We work closely with a variety of visitors, including the parents and the community to promote learning through workshops. The children take part in a wide range of tournaments and competitions and make many visits outside school. We have strong learning links and are regularly involved in projects with the Royal Academy of Dance, the BBC, the Royal Opera House, Royal Academy of Arts, National Gallery, Chicken Shed Theatre Company, National Theatre, QPR and Lyric Theatre.
Extra-curricular clubs include basketball, football, dance, gardening, taekwondo and extension classes (Y5 and 6).
Further Curriculum information can be found in the "Learning" tab under "Curriculum Overviews" and "Subject Curriculum Maps". Additional information can be found by speaking to class teachers or subject leaders ("Our Staff").
